This programme provides you with a comprehensive introduction to the financial services sector, equipping you with the knowledge and practical skills required to understand how the industry operates. You will explore banking, insurance, investments, regulation, compliance, risk management, economics, accounting, and financial technology while developing the professional, digital, and ethical competencies needed for entry-level roles or further study in financial services.

Information for International applicants

Applicants shall be in possession of:

either(a) passes in the Secondary Education Certificate level at Grade 5 or better or at SEC Level 3 in four subjects which must include English Language, Mathematics and Maltese;

or (b) a qualification at MQF Level 3 in an area of study related to Financial Services, which the Board deems as appropriate.

Applicants considered as 鈥淎dult Learners鈥 (mature applicants) in terms of paragraph (c) of regulation 6 of the Admissions Regulations must be in possession of those qualifications and/or experience that would satisfy the Board that they have reached the academic standard required to follow the Course with profit. Such applicants shall be required to submit with their application a letter written in English giving their motivation for applying for this Course together with a copy of their Curriculum Vitae (C.V.).

The eligibility of applicants considered as 鈥淎dult Learners鈥 shall be decided by the Board, following an interview conducted by a board appointed for the purpose, composed of at least three members.

This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2019 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of the Pre-Tertiary Certificate in Financial Services - under the auspices of the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy.

By the end of the course, you will learn about the following themes and contents of the three areas of study:

  • Understand the structure, products, services, and key participants within the financial services ecosystem.
  • Interpret basic economic principles, accounting concepts and financial statements.
  • Analyse workplace situations, identify operational and compliance risks and apply appropriate procedures to support customer-focused and compliant business practices.

Upon successful completion of this programme, you will be prepared for entry-level opportunities across the financial services sector, including roles such as Financial Services Assistant, Banking Support Officer, Insurance Administrator, Customer Service Representative, Compliance Support Assistant. The programme also provides a strong foundation for studies in financial services, insurance, risk management, banking, finance, business, or related disciplines.
